Back from Orlando and a long 8 nights, almost 9 day vacation. So let's see, where to begin...we started our journey very early Sunday morning and had to be at the airport around 7:30. Okay let me rephrase that..HAD to be to the airport around 6:30 in order to not have to panic about missing our flight but we got there around 7:45. So anyway, after standing in the wrong line because we had a carseat to check we rushed to the main checkin place only to find the longest line ever in the history of the world. We made it through quickly enough, made it through security and ran to find the gate only to need to take the tram to get to gate 70. After sweating it out, rushing, etc...we made it just as they were starting to board. So then we get on the plane and i'm anxiously awaiting the Xanax to kick in, when they push us away from the gate and the electrical system fails on the plane. Ever been on a plane that's totally silent? Like eerily quiet and no one is saying a peep (but we're all thinking what the hell?). Anyway, after sitting there for a few minutes with no air, nothing going on, they roll us back to the gate and the pilot informs us that the electrical system has failed and they are going to have the mechanics check it out. Of course in reality what happened was the auxiliry power went out and they had to fix it, nothing to do with flying the plane or the engines or anything. But in Amy's world of scary flying experiences and ability to take something simple and turn it life threatening, i'm sitting there freaking out thinking "maintenance crew?", "electrical system failure?", "Oh my God we're going to die and my first born is sitting on my lap, get me out of here!!". (**Note to self: Take Xanax earlier so it kicks in before I get on the plane) So anyway, we were about an hour late taking off, the electrical system worked like a charm and we made it safely to Orlando without a hitch. Katie slept during takeoff and was good during the flight. I had the luxury of taking her into the microscopic bathroom and changing a poopy diaper while hoping she didn't fall off of the toilet seat! That was fun... On landing she stared at the brown square on the ceiling that had the call buttons and lights. She was a good girl.
We didn't do a ton while in Orlando but in our opinion vacations are about rest, not running from attraction to attraction and getting up at the crack of dawn every morning. Of course Katie always made sure we were up by 6:30 am but when she goes to bed at 9 we really can't complain. We hung out at the pool quite a bit, ate tons of food, the men went on an airboat ride and we took a road trip up to Gainesville to show Nick the University of Florida. Oh ya, how can I forget...we all went to the Clearwater area and found a nice beach on the Gulf. Katie didn't do so well, overheated and we had to call it a day. Poor little thing, she was so hot! She's made more for a/c right now than heat. She sort of enjoyed the pool but not really. I wouldn't say she hated it but she wasn't super excited either. I think the sun was too bright for her baby blues (or greens or green/blues, whatever they are going to be...).
Anyway, we are home and i'm dreading going back to work on Monday. Well, maybe not dreading but i'm not exactly jumping for joy either. At least i'll be earning my keep again and grandma will be doing the babysitting!
